Supporting our native birds

Tauranga Central, Western Bay

With one rat likely to kill up to 50 birds in its lifetime, Predator Free Bay of Plenty is on a mission to make Aotearoa predator free by 2050. This backyard trapping initiative is asking for help from the public to eradicate pests from Waiariki, while also spreading awareness in the community around the threat that our native species face from pests.

Native flora: Rimu, rata, tawa, harakeke flax, pōhutukawa, ponga, silver fern, kauri, toetoe, five finger, kahikatea, puriri, clematis, koromiko, kohekohe.
Mana whenua: Ngāi Te Rangi, Ngāti Hako, Ngāti Hinerangi, Ngāti Mākino, Ngāti Maru, Ngāti Pikiao, Ngāti Pūkenga, Ngāti Ranginui, Ngāti Rangiteaorere, Ngāti Rangiwewehi, Ngāti Tamaterā, Ngāti Tara Tokanui, Ngāti Whakaue, Tapuika, Waitaha.
