Keeping the saltmarsh clean

Whakatāne, Eastern Bay

The Apanui Saltmarsh Care Group volunteers meet up on every second Saturday of the month to collect rubbish from the Whakatāne riverbank and nearby areas. This keen group of locals are dedicated to keeping the Waiariki region clean and the work they do to ensure waste is not finding its way into our waterways is vitally important.

Native flora: Harakeke flax, sea rush, oioi, saltmarsh ribbon wood.
Mana whenua: Ngāti Awa.
